The Selection Panel: Bridging Art, Education, and Enterprise

Despite the UK’s world-class creative education system and entrepreneurial culture, many emerging artists struggle to transition into sustainable careers. The New Blood Art Emerging Art Prize directly addresses this gap.

Many artists possess extraordinary creative vision but may find the entrepreneurial and commercial demands of the market challenging. Without the right tools and support, this extraordinary talent risks being lost. The Prize exists to help bridge this transition, ensuring that promising graduates gain visibility and professional opportunities.

Launched in 2023, the Prize brings together expertise from across entrepreneurship, creative mentoring, education, and the commercial art world.

The Prize has previously benefited from judges in fields such as art education and art patronage, including Professor Anita Taylor, Dean of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and founder of the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize, and Serenella Ciclitira, a renowned art patron, collector, and founder of StART art fair. Their expertise underscores the Prize’s commitment to bridging gaps between education, entrepreneurship, and commercial success in the arts.

At the heart of this ecosystem are fine art tutors, whose role is foundational in shaping the creative and critical thinking of emerging artists. The New Blood Art Emerging Art Prize is a collaboration with these tutors—without them, it would not exist. Their insights, mentorship, and nominations shape the selection process, providing the first layer of support for artists as they develop their artistic identities and practices. This partnership ensures emerging talent is championed and supported as they transition beyond the academic environment.
